What is FLVS (Florida Virtual School) and how does it work?

FLVS is short for Florida Virtual School, which is really a fancy name for online school.  FLVS is free to those who live in Florida.  You can use it as a supplement to regular public school, in case you child wishes to take class over the summer or take a class that isn’t offered at their school.  Or you can use it as a full-time replacement for public school.  Or you can use it in Flex mode.  With both of my boys, we have chosen flex mode.  However, in elementary school and middle school flex works very differently.  I’ll go […]

Ohana: Best Disney Restaurant for Fireworks Viewing

‘Ohana Restaurant Sign One of our favorite places to eat when we go to Disney World is ‘Ohana at the Polynesian Hotel on the second floor of the main lobby.  It is a family favorite for a couple of reasons; the ambiance and food are great, it is a ton of fun, and the great views of the fireworks.  It is a very popular restaurant to go to and reservations can be hard to get so be sure to plan in advance or keep trying close to your visit date. It is a casual restaurant, so no need to get […]

Wakodahatchee Wetlands and Green Cay Wetlands

Welcome to Green Cay Wetlands Sign One of the best things about living in Florida is being able to be outdoors year round.  One of our favorite places to take a walk in the morning or late afternoon is Wakodahatchee Wetlands or Green Cay Wetlands and Nature Center.  Wakodahatchee is a derived word from the Seminole Indian Language and it means “created waters”.  The wetlands park was created from unused land.  The land is from Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department’s Southern Region Water Reclaimation Facility (say that 3 times fast!).  They pump treated water into the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. The […]

Family Fun at Lion Country Safari

Welcome to Lion Country Safari In West Palm Beach, there is a zoo that is different from most other zoos. Lion Country Safari is a drive through zoo! The animals roam freely through different sections in the park. Sometimes they are behind fences or moats, sometimes they wander freely and can walk right up to your car. This is awesome and a little strange to get to close to some of these very large animals. Look how close the animals get to the cars! Up close and personal There are 7 sections of the drive through safari. Las Pampas, Ruaha […]

Universal Studios with kids who don’t like Roller Coasters

My boys love going to theme parks and have been begging us forever to take them to Universal Studios in Orlando. I haven’t been eager, because who wants to go to Universal Studios with kids who don’t like Roller Coasters? My kids like kiddie and less intense Roller Coasters like Thunder Mountain at Disney World, but neither of them like Space Mountain. With that in mind, here are our best pics for kids in Universal Studios Orlando. Universal Studios Islands of Adventure Universal Studios Islands of Adventure The Amazing Adventures of Spider Man This is a 3D simulation and movement […]

Family Review of Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios

Room at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios We have stayed at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios twice in the last year. Our visits were in April and November of 2015.  My boys were lucky enough to receive annual passes to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure from their Grandparents for Christmas. So we went once with the grandparents and once without them.  Both visits we had a room with 2 queen beds and a spacious bathroom. Room at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios One of the best parts about staying at this hotel is […]
