Favorite Travel Gear for Families

Our family brought a ton of stuff on this trip. We filled our luggage with perhaps too many things. Some of the stuff we brought is working out far better than we could have expected and has become some of our favorite travel gear for families. This is the list of our favorite travel gear for families. Electronics: USB Charger – This has been a life-saver for us to set up a charging station and it fits 4 USBs and 1 USB-C chargers. Airbnb Search: How to Find the Best Airbnb to Stay at with your Family

What makes a great Airbnb with kids? The unqualified answer is it depends. I know that isn’t terribly decisive, but it is true. It really depends on what you are looking for and your goals. However, I’ll tell you about what makes a great Airbnb for me and my kids. I’ll also give you the checklist so you know how to use Airbnb search for your next or first rental. Recommended Travel Books

I love to read. I really love to read. I read pretty fast and devour books by the dozens on a regular basis. On a normal one-week beach vacation, I need at least 5 books preferably 10 to just make it through the vacation. This is why my kindle is a necessity. Bag weight alone without it would dwarf me. One of my favorite pastimes is reading travel books that feed my wanderlust. Some of them give me inspiration for our trip, some of them just give me inspiration about a different way of life, some tempt me to cook […]

Affordable dream trips for real families

Remember, our budget was for 2.25 years, at about $67,000 a year. For this exercise, we are going to plan a couple different options that are shorter and more affordable.  For those […]

What SIM to use on a European Cruise

Three SIM My family recently went on a European Cruise. We were going to visit Spain, Italy, and France. We wanted to have data to use Google Maps to navigate and for our larger group of 7 to keep in touch if we went different ways. I went to all my favorite tech sites to see what SIM I should get for these countries. Most of the sites steered me towards using a different SIM for each country. But I didn’t really want to get 3 different SIMs. It seemed costly and needlessly complicated. I talked to a few friends […]

Our visits were in April and November of 2015.  My boys were lucky enough to receive annual passes to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure from their Grandparents for Christmas. So we went once with the grandparents and once without them.  Both visits we had a room with 2 queen beds and a spacious bathroom. Room at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios One of the best parts about staying at this hotel is […]

5 Tips on Flying with Kids

Flying with kids is always a challenge. We have flown with our boys a fair amount over the years. We have taken short 50 minute flights and long 12 hour flights. Here are a few of our tips for making the flight as peaceful as possible. Have entertainment for the kids. For older kids this might mean electronics or books. For younger kids, perhaps a coloring book, new toy, or a game. My boys like to play on their electronics or read now that they are a bit older. They also love to watch movies on the plane if we […]
